What does AI have to do with food production?
For R Mahkeswaran, AI Product Developer at Japfa, the answer began with an interest in how food can be produced more efficiently and sustainably, leading him into research and engineering in agritech.

Today, he develops tools to make farming and processing operations more efficient – from improving quality processes to supporting better decision-making on the ground.
He is part of Japfa’s AI & Quantum Computing Centre of Excellence in Singapore, where AI and data science are applied to livestock production to generate deeper insights and improve operational efficiency. Through this initiative, Japfa is advancing its digitalisation journey and leveraging deep-tech technologies to address real-world challenges in livestock and food production.
R Mahkeswaran’s work is a practical illustration of what innovation looks like in action at Japfa and of how AI is moving from research into practical applications to feed millions across Asia.
